Children's Carnival is a compilation of eight animations created to celebrate the centennial "Carnaval das Crianças" (Children's Carnaval) ballet composed by Heitor Villa-Lobos.

Its original composition was inspired by the Brazilian carnival and folklore of the 1920s and now appears in a contemporary reinterpretation in the form of 8 animations, bringing to life seven characters with roots deep in Brazil's history.

For the character and narrative development process, we researched the history and expressions of each one, we cut out the songs, we analyzed the sketches of costumes made by Di Cavalcante for the Villa Lobos ballet, and the letters exchanged between them, in order to develop this retelling.

Among the 8 animations, I was the lead designer for the characters and directed, animated and edited "O Ginete do Pierrozinho" & co-directed and animated "Folia de um Bloco Infantil".

”O Ginete do Pierrozinho” “The Little Pierrot's Pony”

Traditionally from the italian theatre Commedia dell'Arte, the Pierrot is a character who is known for being a sad clown with a broken heart. In the late 19's, he became a popular costume in Brazilian's Carnaval. In this short-film, we see him as idealized by Villa-Lobos at the time, a little boy that rides a broomstick horse adorned with streamers. The short explores Little Pierrot's character in synchrony with the music of Villa-Lobos, bringing it to the 21th century.
